James A. Goldstein, M.D., F.A.C.C., graduated with high honors and highest distinction from the University of Illinois and received his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He then completed his internal medicine internship and residency at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center in Portland. Following his residency, Dr. Goldstein completed a four-year research and clinical cardiovascular fellowship sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, at the Cardiovascular Research Institute of the University of California in San Francisco. For the next six years Dr. Goldstein directed the cardiovascular division of the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, affiliated with Stanford University Medical Center. He then spent seven years at Washington University in St. Louis, where his responsibilities included directing the Congestive Heart Failure-Cardiac Transplant Program. He is currently the Director of Research & Education in the Division of Cardiology, William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan.

Dr. Goldstein has authored more than 100 articles, abstracts and book chapters published in medical literature. In addition, he actively lectures and participates in several ongoing research projects. Dr. Goldstein is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. He has also been acknowledged in the publication The Best Doctors in America.

Dr. Goldstein's research interests include novel invasive and non-invasive techniques to identify and assess vulnerable coronary placques.
